This sterling silver Aesthetic Movement locket and book chain are so classically Victorian. The charming book chain is composed of flower-engraved links. An ornate oval locket depends from the handsome bolt ring closure. The locket is engraved with a sweet sparrow, and it is embellished with silver rope work and beading. The locket is in good condition, without frames or glass. The decorative bolt ring allows the locket to be easily swapped out for any other pendant, locket or fob you like. Circa 1860.
Large silver lockets were very fashionable day wear for ladies in the Mid Victorian era. The term "book chain" comes from the folded flat links' resemblance to the cover of a book. It is also said these flat chains were often used to mark a place in a book.
