DATE: Victorian, c.1870

Charming antique heart locket fronted entirely by pavé-set turquoise cabochons. Whether they changed over time, or were intentionally set this way, the colour variation between individual stones is a gorgeous effect. Quite unusually, the back is 9k gold while the front is silver... presumably so that it's non-reactive where it sits on the skin, but still with the silver tone front (most attractive combined with the turquoise stones). Opening to reveal two heart-shaped locket compartments, it dates from the latter half of the 19th century, circa 1870.
